Australias Manuka Honey remedies

Smash! the cold this winter with Australias Manuka Honey and…

For the flu season, a natural remedy and a good cold fighting recipe.

This is pretty much the recipe which I use every winter when I feel a cold coming on. The important thing is to get it into you fast. As soon as you notice cold symptoms make up a brew and keep taking it until the symptoms abate.  Careful not to heat the honey too much though. It will lose some of its potency and if its heated above 40 degrees celsius it can even become toxic.

One of our Facebook users also pointed out the importance of not heating the honey. Thanks very much Louise.

Heating up to 37 °C (98.6 °F) causes loss of nearly 200 components, some of which are antibacterial. Heating to 40 °C (104 °F) reduces enzymes.

Ginger Garlic Lemon Honey Bomb

Juicer Method:

  • 100 g fresh ginger root (about ½ to ¾ cup of chunks)
  • 2 lemons
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 Tbsp raw  honey

Juice ginger, lemons, and garlic. Stir in honey.

Take a shot glass and fill it. Then drink it up! Like a boss.

Take several “shots” over the course of the day(s). Recipe makes about 4-5 oz.

Tea Method:

  • 2 inch knob of fresh ginger root, finely minced
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • ½ cup boiling water

Add all ingredients to a mug and stir. If you prefer, you can filter out the particles once you’ve steeped the mixture for at least five minutes, or you can just eat all the bits. Then drink it all!

Drink several cups over the course of the day(s). Recipe makes 1 serving.

Stay well this season!
